  • ALP (Association of Learning Providers) - The voice of learning providers throughout the UK, involved in the development of Government strategy on education.
  • ALT (Association for Learning Technology) - An educational organisation which seeks to bring together all those with an interest in the use of learning technology in higher and further education.
  • Basic Skills Agency- The national development organisation for literacy and numeracy in England and Wales.
  • British Educational Communications and Technology Agency (Becta) -Formerly NCET, Becta is the Government's lead agency for Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in education.
  • Department for Education and Skills (DfES) - Formerly the Department for Education and Employment (DfEE), is the UK Government department with the goal of 'creating opportunity, releasing potential and achieving excellence through education.'
  • FERL (Further Education Resources for Learning) - An Internet-based information service for lecturers and other practitioners in further education colleges. Funded by the Further Education Funding Council and managed by Becta.
  • Independent ICT Procurement Advisory Service (Ipas) - Ipas provides advice to schools on purchasing ICT products and services.
  • Learn Direct - Provides advice and courses, covering a wide variety of ICT and non-ICT training subjects.
  • Linguanet - A virtual language centre developed through a project led by Becta and CILT (Centre for Information on Language Teaching and Research).
  • LSC (Learning and Skills Council) - Formerly known as the Further Education Funding Council for England (FEFCE), LSC is responsible for funding and planning education and training for over 16-year-olds in England.
  • National Curriculum Online (NC Online) - Every National Curriculum programme of study requirement to high-quality, relevant teaching resources. There are hundreds of resources available, including QCA/DfES scheme of work units and QCA exemplification.
  • National Grid for Learning (NGfL) - The UK's main education portal. Primary, Secondary and tertiary education, lifelong learning services, museums and other cultural bodies.
  • NILTA (National Information and Learning Technologies Association) - The membership organisation which exists to support those using new technologies in the provision of (FE) lifelong learning.
  • NLN (National Learning Network) - A DfES initiative to develop Information and Learning Technology (ILT) in Further Education. Its aims are to improve hardware, connectivity and content, develop staff skills, and support effective learning, teaching and management in Further Education.
  • Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) - Works with others to maintain and develop the school curriculum and associated assessments, and to accredit and monitor qualifications in schools, colleges and at work.
  • Standards Dfes - The Key Stage 3 National Strategy aims to raise standards by strengthening teaching and learning across the curriculum for all pupils aged 11 to 14.

  • TeacherNet - A Department for Education and Skills (DfES) gateway to the world of education online. Providing access to sites from across Government and education organisations, and is designed specifically for teachers, classroom assistants, headteachers and the teaching community in England.
  • Virtual Teacher Centre (VTC) - Support materials for primary and secondary teaching in all curriculum areas, as well as providing information on school management. The VTC offers teachers and school managers the opportunity to share ideas and best practice electronically.
